Tomplay App Review: Interactive Sheet Music
Good for saxophone players?
After you've mastered the basics of the saxophone, what comes next?
Sure, this is the opportunity you've waited so long for - to pursue the music you've always wanted to play!
But many sax players run into a brick wall when it comes to finding sheet music and backing tracks for even especially the most popular sax tunes.
I'm thinking of tunes like:
- Lily Was Here (Candy Dulfer / Dave Stewart)
- Careless Whisper (George Michael)
- Baker Street (Gerry Rafferty)
- Fly Me To The Moon (Frank Sinatra)
Spending hours sifting through sheet music websites is never much fun, which is why the folks over at Tomplay think they've got a solution for sax players.
A couple of months ago, Tomplay reached out to me to ask if I'd like to take their app for a spin.
Instead of politely declining (which I normally do...) I decided to take them up on their offer.
Well, turns out their app is actually quite good!
In the video above I review the Tomplay app, you can hear me have a jam on 'Lily Was Here' and I share my thoughts on whether this app could be useful for you!
Some features of the app include:
- A large library of music (Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Duke Ellington, Dire Straits, and many more...)
- Music that scrolls as you play
- Transposed for soprano, alto and tenor saxophones
- Varying difficulty levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
- Professionally recorded backing tracks
- Ability to change tempo of track and loop sections
- Record yourself playing with the track
